Master Xu has consecrated thousands of pieces. He did not consecrate this one.

For years, whenever the collection turned toward a vessel something held every morning, not set on a shelf — Master Xu held it to the same standard as a stone: it had to be true before it reached his hands.
He does not paint. So he found the one man who could.
Qiu Guihuan, Dehua porcelain country, kilns burning for a thousand years. Thirty years spent learning to hold a brush steady enough to lay a dragon's breath in gold, one unbroken line, no correction. Every piece hand-painted, no two alike, only thirty of each to ever exist.

I purchased this talisman about two months ago. Now, when I received it, before I had even opened the box, I felt a bit like I’d had a cocktail, buzzy, light headed.
